2020 Fender Telecaster FMT

High-End Tele® Style and Power
An exquisite high-end Telecaster experience awaits the player who gets his hands on a Special Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH. First, it looks phenomenal, with a carved flame maple top on a mahogany body, cream body binding, a gorgeous Amber finish with a matching headstock, a mahogany set neck, abalone dot fingerboard inlays and black hardware. Second, it sounds phenomenal, with dual Seymour Duncan® humbucking pickups, three-way pickup switching, a push/pull coil tap switch built into the master tone control knob, and more. A decidedly non-traditional Telecaster of peerlessly crafted style and powerful sonic substance.

Special Edition Custom Telecaster® FMT HHI can't believe these are currently selling for $1279.  I'll be honest, it's a cool guitar, but not for almost $1300.  A lot of websites will say this is a high end guitar, and while it might look like it, it's not.  It's made in Indonesia, and so was my Nighthawk reissue.  They feel so similar I would be surprised if they weren't made in the same factory.  That's not a knock either.  Websites will mention that there's a Pearly Gates in the bridge, but it's not the same Pearly Gates pickup that you could buy on its own.

It does have a carved top but I have no idea how thick the maple cap is. I'm assuming it's a veneer.  The Black Cherry Burst is easily the nicest looking finish option.  The Amber and Crimson Red are just OK but maybe those are better in person.  The specs say it's a mahogany body but I have no idea how many pieces made up the body with that black back.

It's funny but I ordered this hoping it could be my bar guitar but then the lockdowns started and I left the band I was in at the time.  After having the guitar for a while, I still think it would be a good bar guitar if I didn't always have to adjust the truss rod.  Maybe it's susceptable to temperature changes but it seems like everytime I pick it up, I have to do a search for an allen wrench.

Plugged in, it's interesting.  With both pickups on, the coil split makes the guitar sound more or less like a regular Telecaster.  When the pickups aren't split, both pickups together sound like a Strat middle pickup.  Clean, like any coil split, the volume drops but with some distortion it's not so bad.

I really do like it.  It does look cool and it does get a Wow when other people see it but now it's just hanging on the wall.  If I need to record a Tele, I'll grab the Baja or Offset instead.  The reason it's hanging on the wall: its weight.  The lightest ones stay up.

On a side note, I'm guessing it's a 2020 model.  The serial number couldn't be found on a lookup.  Even Fender's serial lookup brought back no results, but it looks like there's a problem with their page.

Save your money.
