"... introduced in 1954. Until 1958, it was strictly a single cutaway
slab-bodied guitar built with Mahogany for the body and neck and
Rosewood for the fingerboard. From 1958 until 1961 when the Les Paul
line was given a new body, a double cutaway version was available.
Reissues began in 1986 and have been built in at least eight periods."
My first vintage guitar. I totally didn't need the guitar but the guy
that was selling it needed to pay the rent for the month. I don't like
hearing that someone had to sell something like this to pay the rent
even if it works in my favour but at least it's in a good home. I
thought about selling it over the years because I could still get a good
buck for it considering its poor condition. Currently, I'm in It's
Not For Sale mode.
It plays fine now but it
sure didn't when I got it. And do I like the "Baseball Bat" neck? Not in
particular. It doesn't make you play any better or worse. It is what it
is. The pictures are new but it looks like the day I bought it. This is
why I hmm'd and hawed about buying it. It's pretty beat up. I was
coerced into buying it and for the wrong reasons. I mentioned the rent
thing but I also looked at it as an investment which is pretty cold but
it certainly isn't a player and I couldn't take it out to a gig anyways.
How bad was the condition when I bought it? There's been a
headstock repair and I had to replace the tuners. The story was that it
was left up against a heater and that's why one of the buttons (low E)
was missing so I had to replace the tuners (they're in the case still).
You have no idea how hard it was a finding three on a tree tuner set
back in 2011. The frets were so low that it put me off playing it again
until I took it in for a refret years later. I've tried various
wraparound bridges and was never satisfied so the original one is back
on. I did manage to record the
song Special Delivery with it back in 2011, and I found an instrumental
that I used it on called Paid The Rent. Other than that, it sits in the
closet unless I'm showing it to friends.
